Beside using phone while driving is being punishable, experts claim that it is also the largest distraction for driver because disturbance can be visual, manual and cognitive.
Still, using of phones is allowed in certain cases. Usage is allowed if while using it you don’t need to hold phone in your hand, in other words, if it is completely hands-free. Often, we use phones for navigation in cars. In such cases, usage of phones while driving is allowed if it is not held in hands. It is advised to put it on front windshield or control panel of car, so it wouldn’t block the view and disturb the driver.
Visual interference is when the driver looks away from the road, manual is when driver moves his hands from the steering wheel and cognitive when they switch their focus on something else. Typing messages while driving presents the largest danger since it includes all the mentioned.
Beside the fact some of us are making calls and texting while driving, some are even visiting social networks, reading mail and similar. Research has shown that talking while driving has the same effect as having 0.8 promils of alcohol in blood, while there is 23% more danger for accident if the driver is texting or browsing the internet. Besides, field of view is limited for 33%.
Because of great danger which is brought because of usage of phones while driving, laws are forbidding the usage of phones while driving. Police statistics show that during a year, around 36 thousand of drivers are caught using phones, which makes great percentage of total number of offenses.
